Autumn in Central New Jersey

No, the title doesn't scan to the music, as well as "Autumn in New York," but the experience is very similar.  Next to Spring, Fall is my favorite time of year.

Autumn Colors Blaze in Berkeley Heights, NJ
Most noticeable about Autumn are the changes we observe about us:
  • Trees transforming into beacons of yellow, orange, and red
  • Horse chestnuts and acorns dropping to the ground around us, or bouncing off our car as we drive beneath the trees
  • Squirrels dashing about, madly gathering their winter food store
  • Late-season produce in the grocery stores, especially squash and pumpkins
  • "Pick your own" pumpkin patches
  • Crysanthemums gracing all of our public venues, and many gardens and porches
  • Houses arrayed in ghoulish splendor, awaiting visits from children on Hallowe'en
  • More-sober homes sporting Fall-colored door decorations.

What are your favorite signs of the season?
